pink moon - nick drake
nico - i don't remember how i discovered nico's music, but i recall that i was hooked the minute i heard her music and her voice, so raw and unvarnished and so sad. The Fairest of the Seasons is a song from her album Chelsea Girl, and in it she sings, "Do I stay or do I go....." she was also the lead singer for Velvet Underground and was associated with Andy Warhol and his gang of Warhol Superstars.
vashti bunyan - "Just another diamond day / Just a blade of grass....." after releasing her first LP, Just Another Diamond Day, bunyan seemingly disappeared from the scene. she reminds me a little of joni mitchell, singing of these sad and happy days.
nick drake - he died in 1974 at the age of 26 from a drug overdose. for his whole life, nick drake was weighed down by the darkness of a massive depression. his spare, acoustic, strangely moving music gained popularity only years after his death. for me, nick drake's the man.
