Casual Poet Culture was founded in 2007 by Rebecca Toh (23) and Venessa Toh (20) as a multifunctional cultural label + studio. We're currently based in Singapore.
Since 2008, we have been running Casual Poet, a laidback little coffee shop + store on the third floor of an old shophouse in Chinatown (for more about the store, click here). Our store has since attracted artists, designers, writers, actors, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, travellers and many others who hope to escape the heat & chaos of this occasionally heartbreaking city. We support independent culture and are very happy to work with artists, small companies, artisan producers, individual crafters, independent publishers/labels & friends to stock a small, whimsical but awesome collection of goods, including stationery, homeware, artist goods, independent publications, art books, t-shirts & so on. Our shop also doubles as a living room, a space where both old and new friends can come to find some sort of peace and quiet, in the company of good music and good vibes. Exhibitions, live shows, readings, screenings and so on also happen in the store on an irregular basis.
We believe in easy living, in not taking things too hard in this already too-complicated world.
Our studio is focused on working on big/small/whimsical/commissioned projects that synergises commerce with culture. Our latest project is the SUPER CULTURE CLUB SG (www.supercultureclub.sg), a membership card for arty people. We also organize the SOFA ACOUSTIC SESSIONS, a series of acoustic-only mini live shows featuring local or foreign independent musicians/mainstream performers. The Sessions put the focus back to music, giving music-lovers and listeners a most intimate, stripped down and honest live show experience. Other projects include our upcoming Casual Poet Travelers' Club, which combines photography with travel (and a whole load of fun and laughter and love and beer!).
